I’m checking my list and checking it twice. My hospital bag list that is. And when it’s time to go, I don’t want to worry that I am forgetting something. Especially for the baby. My state of pregnancy has been so up and down these days – I do not do well with the unknown. So, the sooner I can get this bag together, the better I will feel.
For the mommy to be:
Robe for when they make me get up and walk around. Seriously, I do not plan on wearing that lovely blue gown they give you everyday. And this robe is perfection! It’s the perfect length, super soft and stretchy enough to go around my belly now yet lie flat for later days. Win/win!
Nursing pjs and bras – I traveled to Motherhood Maternity this past weekend and bought a few new bras. The Jessica Simpson bras are very comfortable and great for those in between sizes (before and after the milk comes in – and then after my breasts have gone down a bit). These Natori bras were surprisingly comfy and lifting all at the same time. The cup sizes grow with you as well (once again, win/win!).
Nursing pads because I don’t want to ruin my new pjs and bras
No slip socks to keep my feet warm and so I don’t bust my ass on the floor
Those tasty vitamins I’ve been choking down for the past 3 trimesters…
Pumping bra = life saver. And you will want more than one! Those things can get ugly.
Flops for the shower/towels from home
Dress to go home in
Makeup/lip balm and toiletries
Dry shampoo (and cleansing cloths) in case that showering thing doesn’t work out quite as planned
Lotions/coconut oil (I use coconut oil to take my makeup off every night as well)
Hair ties/brush/dryer
For dad: (not sure if I should be jealous his list is only so long…)
Change of clothes
His toiletries
Pillow and blanket from home
For Baby:
Car seat – installed in car
Going home outfit
Nursing pillow
Swaddle blanket/blanket
Extra clothes/hat/mittens
Diaper bag – see this post, but of course you will not need every single item straight out the gate!
If you’re having a photographer come to the hospital, any items you want captured with you and your new addition(s)
Extras:
A radio/iPod and headphones would be awesome so you could have your soothing tunes playing in the room while you try to stay calm(ish) and in your zen space
iPad
Camera/phone and accessories
Chargers and maybe an extension cord for extra plug in capability
Breath mints or those tiny disposable tooth brushes – because your ass isn’t brushing that often right now
Snacks/cash for vending machine
Mirror to apply/take off your makeup
Bottle for water refills
Bag for laundry
You can find cute hospital gowns on Etsy
And remember to think about other things like the fact that hospitals can be cold and smelly. Should you take a sweater/cardigan? Maybe your essential oils for your body and diffuser will help with pain and aromatherapy. Certain teas or coconut water. Some big ole panties, because, you know…
Hopefully your “birthing plan” works out! But, always prepare for the unexpected because those tiny humans don’t care about your plans really.
